Should I clean my roof before installing solar panels?
Answered by Luke at Westside Roof Cleaning & Soft Wash, with more than 12 years on Perth roofs.
Yes, it’s a smart move. Once panels are installed, the tiles underneath are very hard to reach for 20 years or more. Cleaning and treating the roof beforehand removes moss and lichen and gives your installer a clean, safe surface to work on. It’s also a good chance to spot cracked tiles before they’re covered.
Why do it first
- Access: after installation, cleaning under the panels is slow and limited.
- Safety: moss and lichen make tiles slippery for installers.
- Condition check: a clean roof shows cracked tiles and tired capping that should be fixed before panels go on.
- Looks: the parts of the roof around the panels will match.
When to book
Ideally a few weeks before your install date so any lichen has time to finish breaking down. If your install is soon, tell us your date when you request a quote and we’ll do our best to fit in.
Only cleaning part of the roof?
We can quote for the whole roof or just the sections where the panels will go.
