How do I get rid of the stain left after solar panels are removed?
Answered by Luke at Westside Roof Cleaning & Soft Wash, with more than 12 years on Perth roofs.
The outline left behind after panels come off is usually a mix of dirt, mould and uneven weathering. A soft wash of the whole roof section, not just the marked area, usually blends it in. Some colour difference can remain where the roof underneath was shaded from the sun for years.
Why the mark appears
The roof under the panels is shaded and collects dust and debris, while the area around it is exposed to sun and rain. When the panels come off, you see a clear rectangle.
What we can do
- Soft wash the whole roof face so the cleaned area doesn’t create a new patch.
- Treat any mould or lichen that grew under the panels.
- Set realistic expectations: we’ll tell you upfront if some weathering difference is likely to remain.
